The 3-stage filter process includes: Stage-1 large particle pre filter (dust, hair, pet dander), stage-2 99.97% HEPA filter - 50 sqft material (dust, mold, spores, pollen, smoke), and stage-3 VOC filter (gases, odors, chemicals, cleaners, paints). The VOC filter is optional, but recommended. A lesser carbon filter takes the place of the VOC if not utilized. This unit has a variable speed fan and a 5-year limited warranty. The Pre filter is changed every 3-6 months, HEPA filter every 2-5 years, and VOC filter every 6-12 months. All told plan on spending about $150-$200/year on filter changes.
