Hey That Air Guy, Did You Grow Up Loving Air Purifiers?
Back when I was a young boy I had every allergy known to modern medicine. I was mostly oblivious as young kids are, but getting allergy shots for ten years tends to get your attention. I remember being told that I was allergic to trees and grass and milk and many other basic things. Being told that seemed weird to me at the time and I still remember it vividly to this day. My parents also told me a few times that I had several asthmatic attacks that scared them pretty badly. Of course my parents tried many remedies, but I can't remember any specific air purifiers until I was a teenager. In high school I wanted to be cool and so I did what most seemingly outcast jocks did, I joined cross country and track. Running cross country (3.1 mile races) was a drag, mainly because I would run as fast as I could go, but was severely limited by my breathing. Imagine, someone allergic to "everything" running in cross country. Track was better because I ran a shorter distance; the 1/2 mile. You could almost hold your breath for that long. I remember my Mother trying to get us kids healthy and so we endured all kinds of foods and gadgets that would improve our health. I do specifically remember some kind of a "zapper" air cleaner in the 70's that was supposed to help. It was a dust-eater type; some kind of early high voltage electrostatic precipitator thing; pretty noisy. Little did I know at the time my Mother was laying the groundwork for my future endeavors. Running and "health" got put on hold for college and several years after. I majored in engineering and got a job in safety out of college. We were trained in all aspects of safety including air quality. It was a few years before another opportunity came along. My Mother had been trained a nurse (RN) and worked ER in the hospital, but had gotten very sick in her early 40's. Doctors said they could not help her. They told her to take drugs to ease the pain. She did not want to go out that way. She dug in and studied and experimented on herself with different healthy remedies. After regaining her health over the next few years and getting her Masters degree and PHD in Nutrition, she began to teach others what she had learned. It started as a home business which grew and grew. After a few years of talking back and forth, I was hired on as the business manager. It turned out to be a great decision. My Mother was the businesses "engine" and I provided support as the business manager in the background. I received quite an education as the business grew and thrived. Soon we were forced to rent a commercial building, but initially were faced with a major challenge. We were counseling people with severe allergy problems including asthma and other breathing conditions and our building was old, musty, and smelly. To make matters worse, most of our offices were in the basement to start with. We cleaned and renovated as well as we could, but it was not good enough. Even some of our employees complained and got sick. We did in-depth research on what was in the air. We ended up buying four high-end air purifiers. They sure did the trick. We ended up liking them so much that we referred them to our clients. We had always helped people with their health, but we had never really thought about air quality. The purifiers helped many people. Over the years we investigated other purifiers, made countless referrals, and even sold a few different brands. I became familiar with the technologies and even got a feel for many of the companies. I put a few units in my home and it helped my allergies. My four children benefited as well. The air purifiers were not a "cure all" for anyone, but they did become a solid part of our total wellness plan. I started running again and with a few changes in my diet and clean air and clean water, I was running longer and longer distances without much trouble. In fact I ran a few marathons and still run regularly today. Not bad for a walking allergy reaction! There's one guarantee in life, things change. Our business had always had basic challenges as every business does, but we ran into a big one. My Mother passed away unexpectedly and we were forced to divide up and sell the business. We sold half to our nutritionists and half to our store manager. Thankfully, the business still operates today. Besides the obvious grieving, there were some tough decisions made and it was a big change for me as I needed to find a new career. 
I had several directions I could have pursued, but I choose to get involved with air purification. That Air Guy was born and I worked nationally marketing air and water purifiers. After leading a national sales force of managers for six years, I decided to hang up my hat. I enjoyed the business, learned a tremendous amount about air cleaning, and made many contacts. Currently, That Air Guy is semi-retired and plans to get out and see the world after many years of working too many hours, but .... It's hard to stay away and I have information to share, so That Air Guy is back and that information has materialized in this website. My intent is to provide you enough factual research, so you can narrow down your air purifier choice and get a decent deal to boot. There is so much marketing and contradicting information out there! I would have never attempted this type of a project unless I had run across a company called SBI (Site Build It).
